1. Qandil does not issue religious rulings
This is the most important thing on this page.
Qandil helps you keep prayer times, read the Qur’an, and find verified passages. It is not a mufti and it does not give fatwa.
On questions that require a scholar’s judgement — divorce and marriage rulings, inheritance shares, declaring someone outside the faith, sectarian polemics, and medical-religious decisions — the app is built to decline and point you to a qualified local scholar. That refusal is a feature, not a failure.
For anything that affects a real decision in your life, ask a qualified person.
2. Answers carry citations, or they are not given
Every answer in Ask either carries at least one citation that we verified against our own corpus, or it is declined. There is no middle state, and this is enforced in code rather than left to the model.
Even so, answers are produced with the help of an AI system and may be incomplete or wrong. Read the cited verse yourself; the app links you to it.
3. Prayer times are calculated, not authoritative
Prayer times are computed on your device from your coordinates and the calculation method you select. Methods legitimately differ, and so do local conventions. Where your local mosque differs from the app, follow your local mosque.
4. Scripture and its sources
The Arabic Qur’an text comes from the Tanzil Project (CC BY 3.0). Translations come from the Quran Foundation Content API under licence. Each translation is shown with its translator named, because a translator’s clarifying insertions are their words and not revelation.
We do not modify scripture. If you believe you have found an error in the text or a translation, please tell us and we will check it against the source.
5. Your account
You may use Qandil anonymously. You are responsible for the device that holds your account, since an anonymous account is tied to that device rather than to a password.
Do not use the app to attempt to extract our content in bulk, to attack or overload the service, or to misrepresent its answers as religious rulings.
6. Subscriptions
Qandil may offer optional paid features. If it does, purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play, billing follows their terms, and refunds are requested through them, not through us.
7. Availability and liability
The app is provided as is. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, and we are not liable for missed prayers, missed reminders, or decisions taken on the basis of app content. Prayer is your responsibility; the app is a reminder, not a guarantor.
8. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page.
